Biography[]
Jupp, the son of a minister in the United Reformed Church, was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and spent most of his childhood in London. Jupp played Archie the Inventor in CBeebies' Balamory. He also had a role in the BBC Scotland comedy programme Live Floor Show where he played an eccentric, foul mouthed comedian. In 2007, Jupp appeared fleetingly in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix as a television weatherman who complained about an incredibly hot drought.
Jupp appeared in Series 3 and 4 of political comedy The Thick of It as John Duggan, an incompetent press officer with a habit of making inappropriate comments, prompting the remark that his fringe is to "hide the lobotomy scars". Happy New Year. Miles is back out on tour and has added some extra dates and venues.
He toured this show – about undergoing brain surgery – for the first six months of 2024 around the UK and Ireland and is now taking it back on the road, returning to a handful of venues that he has already visited and taking in plenty of new ones. Miles is appearing in each episode of the current series (the 82nd) of I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue on BBC Radio 4. The shows are at half past six on Monday evenings and then repeated at half past twelve just before your Sunday lunch, irrespective of its occasionally course language. All episodes will be on BBC Sounds. He can also briefly be seen in the new Netflix film Joy, acting opposite Bill Nighy and wearing (spoiler alert) a hat.

Miles Jupp
Miles Jupp is an actor, comedian and writer. He started performing stand-up on the Scottish circuit in 2000, and the following year won both So You Think You’re Funny and The Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year. He soon became a regular performer on both series of BBC Scotland’s Live Floor Show, and he was nominated for the Perrier Best Newcomer award for his debut Edinburgh solo show Gentlemen Prefer Brogues. This was followed by his 2005 show, Young Man In A Huff.
He has contributed to a number of Radio 4 shows such as The News Quiz, Arthur Smith’s Balham Bash, The Vote Now Show & Loose Ends, as well as his own series for the station Miles Jupp’s Real World (co-performed with Frankie Boyle), which was broadcast in 2005. He continues to write material for a number of TV and radio shows and various performers.
