Malabo, 12 June 2019 – The race for the 2019 African Bankers Awards came to an end on the night of the 11th of June in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, at a high profile gala dinner of bankers and financial sector stakeholders. TDB President and Chief Executive Admassu Tadesse brings home the ‘African Banker of the Year’ award, one of the top two most prestigious of the competition. The Bank also jointly received with Crédit Agricole the 2019 ‘Infrastructure Deal of the Year’, for its co-financing of the ground-breaking Coral South Floating Liquified Natural Gas (FLNG) project in Mozambique, where TDB collaborated closely with its national partner, Banco Nacional de Investimento (BNI), among others, on this strategic national investment.
TDB was also nominated in the categories ‘African Bank of the Year’ and ‘Deal of the Year – Debt’ for its US$ 1.25bn syndicated sovereign loan facility to the Government of Kenya.

The most prestigious event in the African banking calendar, the African Banker Awards Gala Ceremony 2024, took place on May 28 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, coinciding with the African Development Bank Annual Meetings. The ceremony attracted over 300 of the continent’s leading figures in banking and finance.
Now in its 18th edition, the African Banker Awards celebrate the achievements of individuals and institutions that have significantly contributed to the growth and development of Africa’s banking sector over the past year. This year’s awards ceremony saw Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) achieve success in both institutional and individual categories, reflecting their growing importance within the African financial ecosystem.

Admassu Tadesse
Mr. Tadesse is TDB Group President & Managing Director and Chairman of the TDB Group Executive Management Board. He co-chairs the boards of directors of TDB Group, the Trade and Development Fund (TDF), the TDB Captive Insurance Company (TCI), the TDB Fund Manager (ESATAL) and the ESA Trade Finance Fund (ESATF).
He serves on the governing organs of several global and continental industry bodies, notably the International Development Finance Club, Finance in Common and the Africa Investment Forum. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Financial Sector Deepening Ethiopia, a-not-for-profit financial sector development agency. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Washington D.C.-based Corporate Council on Africa, ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company) and Gulf African Bank. In the past, he has also served on the boards of various development finance institutions/funds/associations in Paris, London and Geneva, as well as Johannesburg, Gaborone and Abidjan.
