With no less than Iris Mittenaere in attendance, Rafieya Husain was crowned as Guyana’s representative at the Miss Universe 2017. Rafieya is famously known for ending the decades-long drought of Guyana at Miss World when she made it to the Top 11 in 2014.
Born in Guyana and spent much of her young life in the country, Rafieya Husain later moved to the United States where she pursued her higher education. She joined in the Miss Universe Guyana 2016 pageant but failed to win the title. Perhaps inspired by Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s 4-time attempt, Rafieya tried her luck again this year. This time around, the 25 year old beauty prevailed.
The Miss Universe 2017 pageant is scheduled to be held on November 26 but there is no official announcement yet about the host city. There are rumors though that it will be in Phoenix, Arizona after the attempt to have it in Hawaii failed.

Rafieya Husain is the First Guyanese in over 40 years to place at the Miss World Pageant
This past weekend the people of Guyana felt a sense of pride as Rafieya Aasieya Husain became the first Guyanese in over 40 years to place at the Miss World Pageant.
The 22-year-old beauty queen, who is a native of Essequibo County, was one of the top 10 Finalists named at the Miss World competition finale held on Sunday at the Excel London ICC Auditorium. Rafieya also won the ‘Beauty With a Purpose Title’, which she shared with India, Kenya, Brazil, Indonesia. Her biggest prize of the event was when she received the Miss World Caribbean title for being the only contestant from the Caribbean in the Final 10.
As the Miss World Caribbean title holder, Rafieya will now be under official contract with the Miss World Organization. The CEO, and Director for Miss World are expected to visit Guyana in the New Year to support Miss Guyana’s Beauty With A Purpose Project. GUYANESE born 18-year old Rafieya Aasieya Husain walked away with 4th runner up for National America 2010 Miss Teen Virginia, plus winner of the top model competition and winner of the casual wear category. The three days of competition held last weekend at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston, Virginia was filled with fun, laughter and lots of memories. The delegates competed in six segments, Top Model, Casual Wear, Photogenic, Spokes Model, Talent, and Actress. Aasieya walked away with 10 Trophies, cash prizes and a scholarship to Cameo Models Internationale, Inc., to pursue a Master Fashion College Development. She won in the following categories: Winner – Top Model and Casual Wear, 1st Runner Up – Spokes Model and Miss Photogenic, and 2nd Runner Up – Actress. The 18 year old also received four additional Trophies for Most Academic Achievements, Most Promising Model, Spirit of America, and Virginia State Finalist.
