History

Origin

Jessi Zazu, Nikki Kvarnes, and Kelley Anderson formed Those Darlins after meeting at the Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.[2]

They began by covering Carter Family songs[3] and employed traditional southern instrumentation, including washboard and clogging, as well as less traditional instruments like the baritone ukulele.[4] The three adopted the stage name Darlin, a practice that continued until Anderson's departure in 2012.

The Darlins

The Darlins is an American country music duo composed of Erinn Bates from Nashville, Tennessee (lead vocals/mandolin) and Jude Toy from Portland, Oregon (guitar/vocals).

The Darlins met at a Sephora in Nashville.[1]

"All My Friends" was written by Erinn Bates, Jude Toy, and Max T. Barnes. The song got viral exposure via Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube after the video won first place in the national battle of the bands contest "The 2nd Hourly Gig" sponsored by Snagajob. Their prize was opening for Montgomery Gentry.[2]

The Darlins' debut EP, Crush, was released in 2015.[3] "Crush" features six songs written and co-written by Jude and Erinn and was produced by Buddy Hyatt from the Grammy Award Winning pop/rock band Toto.

The Darlins were named one of the 8 Best Artists of 2015 by the magazine, Nashville Music Guide.[4] In 2016 the duo was nominated for Best Country Duo or Group at the Nashville Industry Music Awards.[5]

The Darlins' official music video for "Crush" was released in October 2016; it was directed

“A goal of mine for Blur The Line was to bridge the gap between the first and second album, and bring some of what I thought were the best parts of each album and put them together musically.”

Since 2009, Those Darlins has released three records, merging the varied musical tastes of its creators into a focused exploration of punk, country and rock. Lyrically introspective and musically bruising, Those Darlins, Screws Get Loose and Blur The Line have each captured a different sound and aesthetic that capitalizes on the unwavering energies of each band member. Currently comprised of Jessi Zazu, Nikki Kvarnes and Linwood Regensburg, the group has continually balanced a thoughtful, storytelling air with a ragged charm that betrays the raucous atmosphere of their live performances. Speaking to Pancakes and Whiskey in late April, singer/guitarist Zazu spoke about her earliest influences and songwriting before fondly retracing the band’s very first live show.

Growing up in rural Tennessee, Zazu’s Grandfather taught her how to play guitar when she was nine. And while he introduced
