Bio

Christina M. Kishimoto is the founder and CEO of Voice4Equity LLC and a professor of clinical education at the USC Rossier School of Education. A native of the South Bronx in New York City, she is a bold advocate for social justice and a national leader on education policy and equity matters. Prior to founding Voice4Equity, Christina led education systems in Hartford, Connecticut; Gilbert, Arizona; and most recently as the state superintendent of education for the state of Hawaii. She has served on a number of boards including the Council of Chief State School Officers, the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents where she served as president, the Nellie Mae Education Foundation, and she is a national Chief for Change.

Christina Kishimoto is an American education administrator. She served as superintendent of the Hawai'i Department of Education starting in 2017 through the end of her contract in 2021 and in Hartford, Connecticut; and superintendent of Gilbert Public Schools.

Biography

Christina Kishimoto was born in the Bronx in New York. She has four siblings. Kishimoto was inspired to pursue a career in public education by her childhood teachers. Kishimoto was part of the A Better Chance program, which she moved from the Bronx to attend school in Wellesley, Massachusetts, as a sophomore. She'd eventually attend Barnard College and earn her PhD from Columbia University Teachers College in education administration.[1]

Kishimoto is the former superintendent and chief executive officer of Gilbert Public Schools in Gilbert, Arizona.[2] She is also former superintendent of Hartford, Connecticut.[3]

Christina Kishimoto was the Hawaii Superintendent of Education. She assumed office on August 1, 2017. She left office on July 31, 2021.

Biography

Kishimoto served as the assistant superintendent of school design for Hartford Public Schools in Connecticut from 2005 to 2011 and transitioned to the role of superintendent in July 2011, where she remained through June 2014. She went on to serve as the superintendent and chief executive officer of Gilbert Public Schools in Gilbert, Arizona, from July 2014 to July 2017.[1][2]
