Henriques aims to be the best

Mandeville-based international shooter, Orville Henriques, says his performance at the recent Area Six United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) championships in Florida is an indication he is on the way to being the best exponent locally.

Henriques, who is the president of the Manchester Rifle and Pistol Club, finished fifth in the marquee Limited section, won by American Blake Miguel, the World Champion in Greece, last year.

Henriques' returns over 12 stages and against 82 shooters in the Limited shoot section were at 90.9 per cent and good enough for second spot in the Master Shooters category. His overall returns also copped him the award as the tournament's best international shooter.

He said he was determined to improve on his last international outing at the Florida Open, where he finished ninth and a disappointing 79 per cent return.

Henriques tops final street gun shoot

Internationally rated limited gun shooter, Orville Henriques, was pushed to the limit but topped the Street Gun Championship, the year's final major tournament held on the weekend at the Manchester Rifle and Pistol Club (MRPC) in Lincoln.

Twenty-one shooters took part, matching skills on six stages, which were specifically designed to mirror danger scenes faced by the local licensed firearm holder.

The tournament was widely regarded as the most competitive in its two-year history, with the second-place shooter, E. Dixon, hitting 86 per cent; the third-place T Jones getting 76 and the top five finishing above the 70-mark threshold for the first time.

So good was the shooting that female star, Sue Ann Henriques, who normally rivals partner Orville, finished sixth at 69. She would, however, bounce back strongly in the pistol shoot off, easily reaching the final with Henriques after convincingly knocking off three male shooters.
