Though Martin Short prides himself on being one of the funniest actors in Hollywood, he suffered a devastating loss in his personal life. His wife of 30 years, Nancy Dolman, died at age 58 in 2010 after battling ovarian cancer.
Who Was Martin Short’s Wife Nancy Dolman?
Martin met Nancy while they were both performing in 1972’s Canadian production of Godspell. Prior to beginning her romance with the Saturday Night Live alum, Nancy toured with the Canadian Rock Theatre. She performed in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar that traveled across the U.S. and Canada in the early ‘70s.
The University of Western Ontario graduate was smitten with Martin when they met. The pair got married in 1980. Nancy earned acting credits in 1977’s Custard Pie and 1980’s Landon Landon & Landon before joining the cast of Soap. She portrayed the character Annie Selig Tate in multiple episodes of the ABC sitcom from 1980 to 1981.

Dolman was born in Toronto. Her brother is director Bob Dolman. Dolman performed in the Canadian Rock Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar in the early 1970s, which travelled to Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and recorded an album with the group at MGM while they were in Los Angeles.
In 1980, she married fellow Canadian actor Martin Short, whom she had met during the run of the 1972 Toronto production of Godspell. Dolman was Gilda Radner's understudy. Dolman attended high school at York Mills Collegiate Institute in Toronto, and held a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Western Ontario.
Dolman retired from show business in 1985 to be a homemaker and full-time mother to her children. A profile of the couple appeared in the February 1987 issue of Vogue. The family made their home in Pacific Palisades, California. Dolman and Short also kept a vacation home on Lake Rosseau, Ontario.
Dolman suffered from ovarian cancer and died on August 21, 2010, in Pacific Palisades, California, at the age of 58.

Nancy participated actively in musicals and bands throughout High School. At Western University, where she studied philosophy, she became involved in the theatre guild and the University production of “Cabaret”. On her return to Toronto she performed in the Canadian Rock Theatre production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” which travelled to Les Vegas (sic) and Los Angeles, and recorded an album with the group at MGM while they were in L.A. Nancy’s hobbies include antique clothes (she had a store called ‘Reflections of Ambrosine’), skiing, playing the violin, tennis, and cooking and living at the beach with five other Toronto musicians.
